How soon can I get kegs?

This largely depends on available inventory and how many kegs you’re ordering. We ask for a lead time of at least one week, but once we receive your digital order we will get back to you with specifics and a more accurate time frame.


How do I get my new kegs?

All kegs are released through our online app link is at the top of the website. Kegs are available for pickup or delivery. Pickups are available at all Distribution Partner centers. Please review specific details below for your Distribution Partner. Delivery options are also available through any distributor of your choice. To get an exact price for Distributor delivery, please contact them directly for a quote and delivery time.


Do the kegs need to be washed prior to use?

Yes, kegs must be cleaned before the first use and upon receipt at your brewery. All our Kegs are brand new or returned and have not been cleaned. If you wish to receive clean kegs, we have options in specific reasons for an extra charge, details are provided below.


Where do the kegs come from?

Our kegs are supplied by NDL Keg. The kegs are manufactured according to industry-leading standards for quality and materials, using AISI 304 stainless steel. Our kegs are 100% beverage safe, easy to stack and are fully pressurized and passivated before shipping. All our kegs include certified MicroMatic D-style spears. The weld points are made of the highest quality specifications to ensure that they are as strong as possible. Full specifications are available upon request.


Do you have Keg Tracking?

We call it release to customer and return to network. We use a barcode scanning system across all Distribution Partners, developed by Keg Shoe. Kegs are tracked each time they move through our Network, so when they are delivered to you, and when we receive them back.

I have some kegshare kegs, but I need more! Can I increase my fleet?

Absolutely. Increasing your fleet is even easier than signing up initially. Make an order above and we’ll start working on your kegs right away.


What if we lose a keg or one goes missing?

Kegshare participants are liable for all kegs within their fleet, and participants must return all kegs to the program in good working order. If a keg is lost or missing, the steps for resolution are as follows:

1) Alert us of missing keg inventory and any details regarding the missing unit.
2) If theft is suspected, file a police report for the missing unit and provide the report and details to Kegshare.
3) The keg will be removed from your fleet and a fee will be applied to your account.


Can I brand my kegs? Do I get the exact same kegs back every time?

All the kegs you rent are part of a shared pool. Kegshare kegs are treated as global, shared resources that are assigned and distributed to our various partners. We handle all of the administration on the back end to ensure that everyone has total access to their personal fleet of kegs with all of the benefits of a substantially larger fleet. Because kegs are shared, we ask that you don’t apply any permanent branding to kegs. To identify your kegs, please use keg collars.


Can I buy the kegs at any time?

Kegshare does not sell kegs; we sell Keg Tokens, which grants you access to any keg in our fleet. This gives you the best of both worlds for both ownership and rental. However, if you are looking to buy kegs outright, we are partnered with NDL Keg for the direct purchase of kegs. Please contact us for details or quotes.


How does Surge Keg work? 

If you find that you need extra kegs during busy seasons, we can increase your fleet size on a temporary basis.  You are only billed for these extra kegs until the empty kegs are returned to Kegshare and your fleet adjusts to its original size, or for a minimum 3-month period — whichever is greater.

What do I do with kegs I don’t need?

You may store your empty kegs at any of our distribution centres for any amount of time, where they will be available for you to draw upon as needed. Fees will still apply, but there is no charge for storage. If you wish to permanently downsize your fleet, please see the relevant FAQ for more details.


Can I Size Exchange my kegs? (ie: 19.5L changed to 50L)

As market trends change, along with customer needs, you may find that you need less kegs of one size and more of another. As such, there are options to sell your tokens and use the credit or cash to purchase tokens of a different size. Please contact us for more information.

TOKEN FINANCING

What is…

Token

A digital representation of a right to access and use one keg from Kegshare’s national fleet of kegs. Your tokens are used to keep track of how many kegs you are actively using and how many you can still claim. Once bought, Tokens are yours to use, sell, or give away to others (the specifics of this are [here]). Owning a Token is much better than owning a keg; if you buy a keg and something happens to it, you’re stuck with that. With a Token however, you always have access to a fully functional keg, ready to go when you are.


Service

In addition to simply getting a keg, you also get access to features and benefits provided by Kegshare to help you manage your kegs and the logistics surrounding them. The software we use, our operational structure, our logistics chain across the country, and all of the features and benefits we provide are referred to as the Kegshare Service.


Network

We are a software-powered company. We use an online order and invoicing system for placing and managing your orders. We provide a web-based dashboard which reports your Token information and other valuable data metrics to you. We use an app to manage the distribution and tracking of kegs and Tokens. Everything is powered by a robust software backend. All of this is collectively referred to as the Kegshare Network.


Distribution Partner

We have made partnerships with various warehouses across the country to handle all of our logistics and distribution, and we refer to them rather creatively as our Distribution Partners. We’ve strategically chosen warehouses and distributors who are already main players in the craft beverage industry, focusing on companies who are already moving in the market your product is in, visiting your customers, and very likely handling your product. There are powerful efficiencies to be had by working with them.


Member

Someone who owns Tokens is a member of a group sharing a national fleet of 40,000+ kegs, and they get all the efficiencies and resources that come with being part of that group along with all the Services provided along with that membership.


Surge Kegs

If you need to scale up your available Tokens for a short term, say, a busy quarter or a special collaboration brew, we’ve got your back. Rather than making the commitment to lease tokens, you can instead rent them on a temporary basis. The tokens are provided for a minimum of 3 months, and are then yours on a month-to-month basis for as long as you need them.


Token Purchase Price

This is the price at which it costs to purchase a Token outright. The cost is roughly equivalent to the market price of a keg. But of course, with a token, you don’t just get a keg. You get ongoing access to any serviced and functional keg in the fleet, and you get all the amazing features and benefits that come with our Service.


Token Finance

If you don’t have the money to buy tokens now, you can instead choose to finance a Token for 1, 2, 3 or 4 years, billed on a monthly basis. The specifics for this are [here].


Depreciation / Expiry / Useful Life

Tokens are tied to physical assets, and as such they depreciate over time like assets do. The difference is, in the real world, depreciation over time results in actual loss of assets, whereas with Tokens, you get full access to your Tokens until the depreciation grows to a point where they have reached zero value and thus, the end of their Useful Life. For example, let’s assume you buy 100 kegs, and some amount of those kegs break down every year. In year 2, you may have 96, in year three you have 91, etc. If you buy 100 tokens however, you have access to 100 kegs right up until the time where 100 kegs would be worth less than the metal they’re made of, at which point your Tokens expire. The difference between physical depreciation and your access to real kegs via Tokens is money in your pocket. Our full depreciation schedule is available [here].

Membership Benefit Dues

This is a monthly payment you make to Kegshare to provide the services outlined [here].


Scan Fees

When kegs move through our logistics chain for you, we record each step digitally by scanning a unique barcode on each keg. We use these scans to bill for the associated labour behind each movement, and you get the added benefit of having clear visibility of tracking where your kegs are. There are three associated scans, Release to Member, Deliver to Licensee, and Return to Network.


Release to Member

This happens when you use Tokens to claim kegs at a Distribution Partner. This covers any material handling costs Distribution Partners would charge to pick and prep your order for pickup or delivery.


Return to Network

Our distribution partners will pick up any Kegshare kegs they come across while they make deliveries to licensees. This covers the cost of a Distribution Partner picking up an empty keg in use by you, bringing it back to the warehouse, and removing any garbage or refuse from the keg.


Repositioning Fee

One of the great benefits of the Kegshare program is the ability to return a keg to any Distribution Partner. This fee covers the cost of shipping the keg back to where it was originally released, but more importantly it allows you to reclaim your Token for a new keg immediately at your home location rather than waiting for the original keg to physically ship back before you have access to it.


Re-Purchase

If you decide you want to exit Kegshare, you can sell your Tokens. Kegshare has first right of refusal for purchasing your Tokens off you, and we always do so at the depreciation schedule outlined when you place your order (the current one is [here]). If Kegshare opts out of buying your Tokens, you then can sell them to a 3rd party at whatever price you like, so long as Kegshare approves that 3rd party.


Transfer

If a Token moves from one account to another for any reason, there is a small administration fee for doing so.


Lost Kegs

Once Kegshare releases kegs to you, we have no visibility into what you do with it. Many of our members self-distribute their kegs, or use them internally in their own tasting room. For this reason, we don’t know when a keg is or isn’t “lost”. When reviewing the kegs in use by you on your Dashboard, if you feel a keg hasn’t been seen in some time, you can declare it as lost to us. You then have two options: 1), you can pay to replace the keg in full, taking the keg off your account and restoring your Token, or 2) you can do nothing, and wait to see if it comes back. If you opt to replace the keg, we keep tabs on it. If that keg ever does return to any of our Distribution Partners at a later time, you are given a Token immediately.


Damage

We are responsible for all maintenance on kegs. We take our best efforts to make sure that all kegs we deliver are fully functional and in tip-top shape. If you receive a keg that is anything less than that, send it back to us and we’ll get you a new one. We don’t allow our Members to do any keg repairs; just send it home and we’ll replace it. We also hold all liability and pay all costs for such maintenance and we eat the cost of damaged or destroyed kegs, unless such damage is determined to be from gross negligence or violation of our Terms.

Token (Keg) Return requests and keg delivery process.

Direct Tap now requests 2 business days notice for Kegshare keg orders.
ie. An order & shipment for Wednesday would need to be booked by 2pm on Monday.
An order for Tuesday shipment will need to be booked by 2pm on Friday.

Secondly, the process for requesting Kegshare empties has changed, and you can now log into your Kegshare dashboard to have your kegs released. Once you submit the request you will receive a confirmation email, with the date of delivery. If you have a specific delivery date, delivery address, or want to pick up your kegs, please let us know in the notes.


I’m a Direct Tap customer. What are the benefits of Kegshare?

As part of their outstanding service, Direct Tap delivery and logistics includes the pick up of empty Kegshare kegs from licensees within Direct Tap’s delivery boundaries, free of charge. You will also get free empty keg storage up to 30 days (additional 30 days is charged) The typical cost for empty keg storage is $3/ per keg. If you have 100 Kegs in empty storage a month that is a savings of $300/month.


We are looking for distribution services. Can you provide this?

Direct Tap offers a full range of distribution and storage services, but this is independent from Keg Share. To get set up with Direct Tap for distribution and logistics, please contact them here or by phone at 604-689-8277.

Empty Keg Return requests and delivery with Connect Logistics

Connect now requests 5 business days notice for Kegshare keg deliveries. Pickups can be ready in 2 business days. Please keep this in mind as the holiday season approaches and business gets busy. Please also note that Connect only prepares full pallets of kegs. Please request kegs in multiples of:
20 for 19.5L kegs  I 16 for 30L kegs  I  8 for 50L kegs

Get your first shipment to your facility for free in 2018.

For Breweries adding kegs to their fleet in 2018, Connect Logistics is taking care of the shipment to your facility for free as a one-time bonus to joining the program.


What are the Benefits of Kegshare & Connect Logistics?

Working together to increase the Kegshare fleet in Alberta we are able to reduce logistical costs related to empty kegs storage. This is a sustainable cost to small breweries as empty kegs take the time to collect up in the Distribution partners warehouse. Empty Keg Storage is paid for by Keg Share. The typical cost is $4/per month per keg. If you have 100 Kegs in empty Keg Storage that is a saving of over $400/month.
